TT-BH16 TaoTronics Bluetooth Headphones

For a long time, I have been looking for earbuds that could work well according to what I want.

When it comes to headphones, earphones, and earbuds, there is no set that can work perfectly on different occasions.

If you are the sporting type like me, you wouldn’t want wires of earphones bouncing around when you are jogging, hiking, running or during workouts.

I didn’t want to spend more than $100 on headphones but, I wanted quality and excellent sound at the same time. So, in short, I was looking for affordable, but high-quality headphones. After some research, I bought TT-BH16 Tao Tronics Bluetooth Headphones.

I have been using the headphones for over a week now, and I can say, with confidence that they are awesome. I usually use them to listen to music during my exercises like running, jogging and workouts and I never had any problem.

Here is what makes Tao Tronics headphones outstanding

(a) Wireless connectivity and Battery life

I used the headphones on a daily basis, during my workouts and sometimes I listen to audio books, it was very easy to last 7 hours on a single charge, in contrary to the 8 hours the Tao Tronics website claims. But this is still good for me, 7 hours means I can spend the whole day.

During the exercises, I noticed that the more I switched them on and off repeatedly, the more the battery drained so fast. So when I was not near the charger, I had to avoid the ON and OFF /pairing and re-pairing during my exercises.

This is common even in smartphones, when you switch your mobile phone off, on restarting it, more power is consumed because booting needs a bit more power.

On standby, the battery can last for up to 175 hours, so if you were not to use them continuously, say, you are just using them for an hour or so per day, you could last a whole week with a single charge.

The battery can be fully charged in an hour, so its 7 hours of use and 1 hour of charging, which is pretty good.

(b) Bluetooth connection and wireless pairing steps

I found that pairing the headphones with my laptop, PC and my mobile phone was pretty easy, there are simple steps you need to follow, but everything is on the manual that comes with the headphones.

Below are the steps you will need to follow to pair the headphones with other devices;

  1. You need to be 3ft or less away from the device you want to pair with
  2. Hold the middle button down for some seconds, until you see the LED light flashing blue and red
  3. The other device that you want to pair with must have its Bluetooth turned on.
  4. On the other device, select Tao Tronics TT-BH16.
  5. Your earbuds will flash green if the devices are paired.
  6. You are done

Bluetooth 4.2 is compatible with the Android phone, iPhone, music players, and tablets.

(c) Earbuds sleeves and hooks come in different sizes

I usually felt very uncomfortable with some in-ear headphones that in most, I end up not using them, but there was a big difference with this pair. I felt very comfortable to use them.

However, I felt comfortable when using them for a shorter period like 1 hour or so, I would begin to feel uncomfortable after 2 hours of continuous use.

The package comes with three different sizes of earbuds and ear-hooks, classified as small, medium and big sizes.

I first tried the small earbuds and I found that they were not fitting well in my ears, they were easily dropping out. I then tried the medium-sized and they are working perfectly well, even when I am doing vigorous workouts, they always stay well in place.

(d) Waterproof rating

The TT-BH16 has an IPX6 rating, this means they are water resistant. They are designed in such a way that they can resist sweat caused by rigorous workouts. Again if you take them for a run during rains, they can hold up.

However, they are not the type of headphones you could swim with, there are models of headphones that can resist such level of moisture. To understand what IPX6 rating mean, read here

  1. Great article. I’ve been using a pair of LG HBS-780 earbuds for a while now but the part that connects Left and Right and has all the controls and charging port on it is solid plastic so it’s a bit annoying during heavy exercising and activity. Otherwise though I don’t really notice is.

One thing I’ve noticed with earbuds like the ones you describe here is that the wire tends to catch on my neck and when I turn my head it pulls the earbud out of my ear. Did you notice anything like that with these?

Also, how strong is the magnet that connects them when not in use. I had a pair that didn’t have a strong magnet so they would separate and fall off my neck if I wasn’t paying attention. Needless to say, I eventually lost them.

As you said, no one pair fits every situation, but these look like they might check most of my boxes. Thanks for the information.

  2. Thank you for your review. I have been in the market for wireless headphones and I have been finding it hard to find a model that hits that sweet spot of being high quality but also affordable.  The trouble I have been finding is I read very positive reviews on a product, but when I go on to Amazon, the reviews from customers who have bought the product can be quite mixed. I have noticed similar for this one, such as some reviewers saying it is not compatible with an iPhone. There are others who are very happy with it, like yourself. Are you able to confirm if this is compatible with an iPhone? My wife uses an iPhone and she may want to use these earphones from time to time.

  3. Hi – thanks for sharing this headphones review. To be honest, I had not heard of this manufacturer before, so I had a quick glance at their website, and was pleasantly surprised as to how affordable their products are. The battery life on these headphones is a big plus, as I would probably only use them for an hour a day during my workout. I like the fact that they come with different sized earbuds, that way both myself and my partner can use them. Definitely one to add to my Christmas wish list! All the best, Diane

  4. Thanks for the info and review. I have also been looking for a quality pair of wireless headphones for  the gym. 7 hours is a fantastic battery life, perfect for hiking! Based on your review I may have to try these for myself. The losing more battery when turning off and on thing makes sense too.

    1. Very true, when you want to save your battery, then you would need to avoid switching the headphones on and off. But if you are using them for certain minimum amount of time, there is no need to worry about the battery

  5. I’m a daily runner myself, about five miles every morning, and over the last few years – I’ve lost count of the amount of ear buds and headphones I’ve had to replace due to degrading of the wires.

I’m really pleased you have introduced these to me as I don’t mind paying that little bit extra, just to get quality that will last over a year (for once!). What are the volume levels like on them and do they have a flat frequency response?

    a good ear phone review.

I bet,  no ones needs a dangling wires while jogging  or during hiking and or during any walk out.  I love comfort and class with electronics.  I love using earphones,  and I am sure this your review will help my decision in choosing. The pack comes with awesome inclusions. …..three ear buds,  three ear hooks.  Great.

  7. This exactly what I was looking for. A remote fed bluetooth device that I can use while working.

I used these cheap headphones until now but it gets frustrating over time to having to replace them because they break so fast.

I work in construction and often there’s a lot of dust, do you think these TT – HH16 will resitst strong dusty air?

I’m already excited of using them without having to take care of the cable all the time.

I’ll have to check how it goes for 4 hours a time, often it is too loud for music anyway then I think I take them out.

  8. When it comes to Headphones, I always tend to go with the well known brands like the Beats. Especially lf i want to replace the ones that came with my phone. However, i noticed that there’s so many knock-offs on the market and you won’t realize until you start to use them. their sound quality is less than desired and so the listening experience that you had became used to just went out the window. The sound quality that you explained sounds good…i might give these a try.

Hello and thank you for this wonderful review. I really enjoyed reading it. I am a planning on purchasing new bluetooth headphones and that is how i ended up on your website.

TT-BH 16 look like a great buy judging from your review. If they serve you good they are probably awesome. I need cheap and affordable model and BH 16 are just the perfect pick i think.

I will check them on Amazon.

Thank you for this informative review.

  10. Hey there,

headphones became a crucial part of my life and I use them all the time, whether that would be my workouts, writing content or just chilling. However, I’ve recently made switch from wired headphones to wireless bluetooth headset and my God, what a difference! Using wireless ones is soo much more comfortable. You feel free using them, and by that I mean You don’t get stuck on the wires all the time and you don’t end up ripping the headphones from Your ear. Thanks for the great review!

  11. thank you fo rthis greatreview. I have only recently decided to try using bluetooth headphones, but it is a reveltion. No more wires to worry about, should have tried it out years ago. These ones look great, I love the magnetic feature that look really handy so i will check them out

  12. I really love bluetooth headphones because I can have my phone in my bag and still listen to my music or make calls comfortably. I have tried different ones over the years and I have not found my ideal pair yet. I was looking into these, but as you say that they aren’t not ideal for using for hours on end, I think I am going to pass on these.

    Thanks for reviewing them!

  13. Hi there,

Thank you for your great review.  I am a avid user of headphone, especially at work sitting at my desk and love the convenience of wireless so I can move around with having a cord in the way.  The TaoTronic Headphones sounds like a wise choice for someone like me, that doesn’t need a very high quality sound, and want an affordable price.  I will definitely check these out!

I do have a “newbie” question here.  In the first paragraph of your article you mention headphones, earphones and earbuds.  Can you explain the difference between the three?  I have always been confused by these “titles”  I call them all headphones…

Hello . I hope you are enjoying the season… Thank you for sharing such an awesome review of the TT-BH16 Tao Tronics Bluetooth Headphones. I think they are idea for my morning walk. My morning walk is not fun without music. I hate the wires tangling around using my wired headset. These Bluetooth headphones are ideal.

  15. Hello Ngonidzashe. This is a timely topic for me a s I have been going through some issues with my current headphones. They have been cutting in and out, one minute the sound is too loud and then the next, nothing. So I am definitely in the market. I like the features you mentioned, especially the small, medium and large earbuds as I have trouble with that too. 7 hours of battery life sounds good to me and I like the price!

Thanks for a great review on the TT-BH16 Tao Tronics Bluetooth. I will be checking it out.

  16. I agree with you I have always looked for head phones that are wireless because I to don’t like the feeling of the wires being in the way. I also don’t like to spend a crazy amount of money on some headphone my limit is $100 or less. last christmas I got a pair of LG wireless headphones, that are the ones that are solid that wraps around your neck and they have the buttons and switches on the arms of the headphones when the ear buds connect to the solid part with magnets. I don’t remember the model of this LG but they are a solid bluetooth head phones.

These TT-BH16 TaoTronics Bluetooth Headphones sound like a good purchase I have always been person to listen to music or videos on my two hour ride to work and back home. I think I will have to check these out for working out and what because I usually only workout for an hour. You did say they get uncomfortable after more than an hour so I feel these would be a good fit for a short workout.

It is nice to come across reviews like this that actually can help than you for this review it has helped me a lot.

  17. Great review on the TaoTronics Bluetooth headphones.  I really need to get a pair of wireless or bluetooth headphones.  I’m currently using my factory Apple earbuds that came with my phone two years ago, and the sound is terrible!! I also have a lot of people tell me that I sound really muffled when they talk to me on the phone when I have my headphones in.

How is the sound quality with these headphones when people call?

I like that these have hooks on them as I find that my earbuds are constantly falling out of my ears when I’m jogging outside, which is really annoying!

    1. Hi Nicki, I found the sound good, but I cannot say its one of the best quality sound out there, for the price of $29.99, they performed beyond my expectation.

Hello there. Thanks for sharing your experience with T-BH16 TaoTronics Bluetooth Headphones.

I am thinking of starting the morning walk exercise. I’m currently in school and think School is a great place to start this habit of morning walk. I personally can not do without music. Will definitely try out this headphones.

  19. Let me just say that the first thing that impressed me was the battery life. 175 hours? Wow! That’s awesome but of course it takes more than that for headphones to be the best.

I have large headphones that I use. But when I want to listen to music silently like on a plane and I only have my apple earbuds, they are not comfortable. They never stay in my ears.

It’s also good that they are waterproof and come in different sizes. My question is how good is the sound quality and what is the warranty on them?

  20. This is a really thorough review, thank you. I had no idea that turning the earbuds on and off so much would drain the battery so quickly.

I currently use Bose headphones and I’m happy with them. They are a similar design to these.

I notice that these headphones have the stabilizing piece the goes in the ear. My Bose headphones have the ones that go over the ear. Do you notice that they fall out easily?

  21. Jag Randa says:

My younger son has just gotten into working out. He had a really nice set of headphones, which he accidentally crushed in one of the weight machines.

It seems new headphones are in order for Christmas. I will definitely be looking these up. I like that battery lasts awhile. The only issue we have with wireless is they fall out of the ear quite fast. How are these for staying in ears?

  22. These look awesome. I hate in-ear headphones, but I find it difficult to find anything else that is as convenient to carry around and works well for exercise. I’m glad to read that these felt different in your ears than some other in-ear styles you have tried.

    Do they work with iPhone?

    1. Hi Holly, yes they are compatible with iPhone and music players as well

  23. cjciganotto says:

    Hello Ngonidzashe,

I am a lover as you do the exercises, lately this trotting. Reading your article I would love to be able to do my exercises listening to music with a wireless headset, without wires. I like to be able to listen to the sound with the highest quality and at the best price.

The duration of the battery is also very important (7 hours) is more than enough for me. The box comes with 3 different measures adaptable to our ears. They also support our sweat that we emit when we perspire ..

Please tell me what I have to do, If I decide to buy them. Excellent review!

    Greetings. Claudio

  24. I have been looking for some good bluetooth headphones so good t have come across your review. I have been using the Jaybird Freedom headphones for a while but I find them a bit uncomfortable after long periods like the TaoTronics ones you have reviewed. I also have a problem with them falling out of my ears.

Have you reviewed any over-ear wireless headphones? I think these might suit me better.

    1. Not yet James, but I have listed them in a queue of my next reviews, so just subscribe for notifications, you will get notified very soon

  25. I run over 6 miles every morning, and I always take an Mp3 player with me – I need music to run to, it just doesn’t work without it! Unfortunately I have to run with the player in my left hand due to the headphone wires pulling the player out of my pocket – these wireless earbuds could be the answer.

Are all Mp3 players fitted with a bluetooth function?

    1. Hi Chris, It may differ with the model but most MP3 players nowadays have bluetooth connection

  26. Hi and thanks for your review of these headphones. I also don’t like how the wires on regular headphones get in the way when your doing something. Even walking with my jacket on, the wires can get caught and irritate me. So a nice pair of headphones and for a very reasonable price is great. Thanks for sharing this with me. Kenny
